Position: Contract Technical Writer

Minimum Education: MS/PhD

Job Description:

The Contract Technical Writer is responsible for developing a range of ancillary components for textbooks and trade books in a variety of fields, including computer science/information technology, mathematics, and technical trades, such as electrical repair, electronics, automotive repair, construction, firefighting, graphics, etc.

The ancillary components include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Instructor Manuals
  2. Testbanks
  3. PowerPoint Presentations
  4. Distance Learning content
  5. Solutions manuals
Additional components may be required for any given project.

Each of these components must be developed in accordance with standards to be defined by Chimborazo and the textbook publisher. Textbooks range in difficulty from undergraduate to graduate to professional level.

All materials developed by the Contract Technical Writer are evaluated according to:

  1. Content
  2. Accuracy
  3. Format
  4. Timeliness

All communications between the Contract Technical Writer and his/her supervisor are via email, FTP, or phone. The Contract Technical Writer is responsible for his/her own time and is not required to report to an office. The manner of work is controlled by the Contract Technical Writer; however, deadlines and quality standards must be strictly adhered to.

In addition to possessing an MS or PhD degree, the successful candidate must have a wide range of skills and be well-versed at producing technical and instructional materials.
